All the grapes for this wine come from a trellised, hand-harvested vineyard in Stellenbosch. Grapes are picked in bins in optimal conditions to ensure quality. This is a skin-contact Pinot Gris. To give this wine its gorgeous copper color, the wine is fermented naturally in open fermenters and spends 8 days on the skins. After this, it is pressed and transferred to old oak barrels. The wine is aged for 7 months in barrel. A spicy, dry entry that develops in the glass to display rhubarb, raspberry and grapefruit. 5 barrels were produced.

Dr. William Charles Winshaw, the winemaker's great grandfather, was born in the United States. He ran away from home when he was 12 years old. A lucky bet on a horse and a few winning games of faro saw him become a professional gambler for part of his life. His whole life was a gamble from the moment he ran away, his expedition to South Africa, and eventually starting to make wine in South Africa.
